We are asked daily about bear safety when hiking and camping.  Should I be worried, will I see a bear, do I need to carry bear spray, what should we do if we see one?

That is why we started Alaska Bear Defense. Your comprehensive Alaska Bear info page.

Statistically speaking, The Alaska Department of Fish & Game states that "Alaska has over 98 percent of the United States population of brown bears, and more than 70 percent of the North American population".    That's alot of bears!  How easy is it to find bears in Alaska, well if you look closely on these photos of bears on our page, you'll see Amy Bragg is an Alaskan Photographer.  She heads out most weekends, and she photographs Alaska wildlife.  She sees a lot of bears!  She knows how to operate safely in the backcountry.  We want you to feel the same way.   Our goal is to ease your mind and provide you with information to have a successful trip when in bear country.

So do some research and you'll be prepared as you adventure in Alaska.  It is recommended to carry one can of bear spray per person in your party.
